Abstract

Zusammenfassung Der Mensch verdankt seinen Aufstieg vor allem seiner Fähigkeit, sich zu organisieren. Darin ist er allen anderen Tieren haushoch überlegen. Aber wie hat sich das eigentlich entwickelt? Das Museum für Kommunikation geht dieser Frage nach, die mit einer Veränderung am Zungenbein vor 1,9 Millionen Jahren begann und bei der Echtzeit-Kommunikation unserer Zeit ankommt. Die Geschwindigkeit, mit der Informationen übertragen werden konnten, entschied über Aufstieg und Niedergang ganzer Reiche und dass Roms Imperium so lange bestehen blieb, lag darum auch am ausgeklügelten Straßennetz, über das Boten so schnell, wie nirgendwo sonst auf der Welt reisen konnten.
