Abstract

Zusammenfassung Das Klima der Kanarischen Inseln ist schon immer der wichtigste Faktor für die touristische Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der Kanarischen Inseln gewesen. Der Begriff „bestes Klima der Welt“ ist keine Marketing-Erfindung, sondern basiert auf wissenschaftlichen Studien. Die wohl bekannteste Studie ist die von Professor Peter Thomas Whitmore, Director of Climatology Research an der University of Syracuse (USA), der 1996 Pleasant Weather Ratings veröffentlichte, in dem er das Klima von 600 Städten der Welt analysierte und jeweils alle 15 Tage des Jahres nach einem Wertesystem einordnete, bei dem die höchstmöglichen Werte die drei weißen Sterne (das entspricht maximalen Temperaturen zwischen 21–29 °C und weniger Regen und Bewölkung als der Durchschnitt der Städte in diesem Zeitraum) und die drei schwarzen Sterne (wie der vorherige Wert, aber mit Durchschnittstemperaturen zwischen 18–21 ºC) waren.
