Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Lebenshilfe wurde 1961 aus der Not geboren. Zur Gründungszeit konnten Kinder mit einem Handicap noch keine Schulen besuchen. Frau Luzia Fehlmann, die für ihren Sohn mit Trisomie 21 eine schulische Grundbildung anstrebte, und der Heilpädagoge Valentin Reichenbach, der zum Thema „Lernen mit Down-Syndrom“ promoviert hatte, starteten mit sechs Kindern und einem innovativen pädagogischen Konzept, das auf die Entwicklung der Kinder zu eigenständigen Persönlichkeiten fokussierte.
