Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die wissenschaftliche Psychologie hat in vielfältiger Weise die Arbeit der modernen Polizeien beeinflusst. Trotzdem ist das Verhältnis zwischen der Psychologie als Wissenschaft und der polizeilichen Praxis keineswegs einfach, wie der nachfolgende Beitrag aufzeigen wird. Ausgehend von einer Begriffsbestimmung der Polizeipsychologie wird ein Überblick über wichtige Meilensteine und Entwicklungsschritte bei der Anwendung wissenschaftlicher psychologischer Erkenntnisse in der Polizei gegeben. Die Darstellung zur Geschichte der Polizeipsychologie erfolgt entlang von vier zeitlichen Phasen mit dem Fokus auf Deutschland und den USA. Darauf aufbauend lassen sich verschiedene Voraussetzungen identifizieren, die für den Theorie-Praxis-Transfer bisher bestanden haben. Diese gilt es zu reflektieren und Implikationen sowie entsprechende Handlungsempfehlungen abzuleiten.
