Abstract

Zusammenfassung Im Zusammenhang mit der Digitalisierung und der Nutzung verschiedener Online-Dienste ist der Schutz personenbezogener Daten ein wichtiger Aspekt. Der Serverstandort eines IT-Anbieters bestimmt, welches Datenschutzgesetz gilt. In Europa ist dies seit Mai 2018 die EU-Datenschutzgrundverordnung (DSGVO); in Deutschland ergänzt durch das – im weltweiten Vergleich – strenge Bundesdatenschutzgesetz. Inzwischen betreiben auch viele amerikanische Anbieter europäische Serverstandorte oder richten sich freiwillig nach den DSGVO-Bestimmungen, um die Akzeptanz ihrer Dienstleistungen zu erhöhen. Das Kapitel erläutert den Umgang mit der DSGVO für den einzelnen Mediator, gibt Hilfestellungen zu Fragen der Software-Auswahl und zeigt soziale und ökologische Mehrwerte von Videokonferenz-Systemen auf.
