Abstract

Zusammenfassung Digitalisierung ist gegenwärtig einer der zentralen Gegenstände politischer, ökonomischer und gesellschaftlicher Debatten und wird zugleich als Megatrend bezeichnet. Im Zentrum der immer zügiger verlaufenden digitalen Transformation stehen nicht nur Metropolen und städtische Verdichtungsräume, sondern auch Regionen und Kommunen im ländlichen Raum. Digitalisierungsstrategien für den ländlichen Raum werden im wissenschaftlichen Diskurs unter dem Terminus der Smart Regions diskutiert. Digitale Lösungen können neue Chancen für die Bewältigung wirtschaftlicher, politisch-administrativer, gesellschaftlicher, ökologischer und sozialer Herausforderungen in ländlichen Regionen eröffnen. Telemedizin, digitale Mobilitätskonzepte und Coworking können dabei Anreize schaffen, um Kommunen im ländlichen Raum lebenswerter und attraktiver für die Zukunft zu gestalten.
