Abstract

Zusammenfassung Indien ist zu einem der weltweit großen Energieverbraucher und Klimagasemittenten geworden, eine Folge des rasanten Wachstums, aber inzwischen auch des Konsumentenverhaltens. Die indische Regierung steuert allerdings seit über einer Dekade in Richtung höherer Energieeffizienz und der starken Förderung erneuerbarer Energien um, bedingt durch steigende Importabhängigkeit von fossilen Energieträgern und wachsender Kompetenz bei der Nutzung erneuerbarer Quellen. Dies nicht ohne deutliche Erfolge, wie sich an der sinkenden Energieintensität der Produktion und des Konsums erweist. Hilfreich bei der Politikwende waren Normen und Kodizes für den Wohnungsbau, für Haushaltsgeräte, für Kraftfahrzeuge und für den Energieverbrauch von Industrieunternehmen, besonders aber die starke Förderung der Windkraft und noch stärker der Solarenergie. Freilich relativieren sich diese Erfolge durch die wachstumsbedingte Steigerung von Energienachfrage und Emissionen.
