Abstract

Zusammenfassung Auch wenn der Beginn der Neuzeit normalerweise mit der Entdeckung Amerikas als eine harte Zäsur angesehen wird, so geschah realiter der Übergang vom Mittelalter zur Neuzeit nur langsam, wobei festzuhalten ist, dass die Neuzeit bis in die Zeitgeschichte und Gegenwart reicht. Unter Früher Neuzeit dagegen „ist die europäische Makroepoche zwischen Spätmittelalter und Französischer Revolution zu verstehen, also etwa das 15.–18. Jahrhundert, in landläufigen Begriffen vom Renaissancehumanismus bis zur Aufklärung. […]. Diese Abgrenzungen sind vage, aber die Unschärfe bietet den Vorteil der Lizenz zu Flexibilität“ (Jaumann 2004, S. VII).
