Abstract

Zusammenfassung Das Vertrauen der Bevölkerung in die Polizei wird als wichtiges Gut gesehen. Im folgenden Artikel wird dargelegt, was es bedeutet, wenn Menschen anderen Menschen vertrauen und wenn sie generell „in eine Institution“ wie die Polizei vertrauen. Der Autor beschreibt ein Experiment, in dem die Auswirkungen eines Reality-TV-Films und eines Kriminalfilms auf das Vertrauen in die Polizei gemessen wurden. Auf unbewusster Ebene stellte er dabei einen Vertrauensverlust-Effekt fest, den er anfangs als „paradox“, weil unerwartet, einstufte. Doch die Ergebnisse einer qualitativen Befragung der Versuchspersonen legen nahe, dass das Vertrauen in die Polizei nur eine Illusion ist. Der Autor entwickelte daraus ein „Modell der Vertrauensillusion“.
