Abstract

Zusammenfassung Der Beitrag erläutert zunächst, was eine Organisationskultur ist, wie man sie beschreiben kann und welche Kulturtypen es gibt, bevor dann die spezifische Organisationskultur der Polizei in den Mittelpunkt rückt. Dabei wird deutlich, dass die Polizei eine starke Organisationskultur hat, die den Organisationsmitgliedern ein einzigartiges und prägnantes Werte- und Normensystem vermittelt. Empirische Forschungsergebnisse zeigen aber, dass man die Polizeikultur differenziert betrachten muss, da sie mehrere Dimensionen umfasst, die je nach Organisationseinheit sehr unterschiedlich ausgeprägt sein können. Wie alle starken Organisationskulturen neigt sie zu mangelnder Flexibilität und erschwert die Anpassung an Umweltveränderungen, so dass gerade unter den hochdynamischen Rahmenbedingungen des 21. Jahrhunderts eine Auseinandersetzung mit den Möglichkeiten des Kulturwandels erforderlich ist.
