Abstract

Zusammenfassung Unter Historismus (engl. historicism) verstehen wir die vornehmlich im deutschen Sprachraum am Ende des 18. Jahrhundert einsetzende ideengeschichtliche Bewegung des historischen Denkens, die sich zu einer – zunächst als romantische Kritik an der Aufklärung formulierten (Meinecke) – umfassenden Weltinterpretation entwickelte. Sie stellt den Menschen als historisch konkretes, zeitliches und endliches Wesen und historische Individualitäten und deren Entwicklungsrichtung (Nationen und Völker, Herder) in den Mittelpunkt. Als grundsätzliche Historisierung allen Denkens über den Menschen, seine Kultur und seine Werte steht sie nach Troeltsch (1922) der anderen großen Wissenschaftsschöpfung der modernen Welt, dem mechanistischen Naturalismus und seiner nicht-metaphysischen Naturerklärung und mathematischen Modellen, seinen abstrakt-allgemeinen, quantitativen Beziehungsgesetzen und dem Anspruch empirischer Überprüfbarkeit gegenüber.
