Pfadabhängigkeit in der Wirtschaftsgeschichte

Abstract

Zusammenfassung Ein ökonomisches Allokationsverfahren ist pfadabhängig, wenn die Geschichte des Verfahrens eine dauernde Auswirkung auf spätere Allokationen aufweist. Ein pfadabhängiges Verfahren muss nicht auf eine eindeutige, global stabile Gleichgewichtsallokation hin konvergieren. Vielmehr bewirken die dynamischen Eigenschaften eines solchen Verfahrens eine Persistenz einzelner, kontingenter Ereignisse, sodass die Zeitreihe der Gleichgewichte von der Geschichte oder dem Pfad des Verfahrens abhängt (David 1993). Paul A.\David (1985) merkt dazu an, dass „zeitlich entfernte Ereignisse einen wichtigen Einfluss auf das Endergebnis ausüben, einschließlich den Ereignissen die von Zufallselementen anstatt von systematischen Einflüssen dominiert werden“. Pfadabhängigkeit wird in der Geschichtswissenschaft zur Erklärung nicht nur vergangener, sondern auch gegenwärtiger Ereignisse genutzt.
