Abstract

Zusammenfassung Was wir heute als Büroarbeit bezeichnen, geht auf eine lange und wechselreiche Entwicklungsgeschichte zurück. Spezifische Gesellschaftsbilder, Vorstellungen von Arbeit aber auch technische Errungenschaften prägen die Arbeit im Büro von der Frühzeit bis in die Gegenwart hinein. Alles, was heute als Büroarbeit geläufig ist, ist keine Erfindung der Neuzeit, alles gab es bereits früher: Speicher, Schreibstube, Werkstatt, Kontor, Bureau, Manufaktur, Fabrikbüro, Großraumbüro, Multispaces etc. Aus der Rekonstruktion seiner Entstehungsgeschichte wird die heutige Gestaltungs- und Funktionsweise des Büros verständlich. Doch die Geschichte wird sich nicht einfach fortschreiben. Aktuell steht die Frage des Arbeitsraumes wieder vor einem tief greifenden Wandel: Multilokales Arbeiten, Home-Office, Third Places, Digitalisierung, neue Arbeits- aber auch Raumbedürfnisse etc. stellen die aktuellen Bürokonzeptionen auf einen weiteren Prüfstand. Am Beispiel des Büros wird die Zukunft von Arbeitsorten und Arbeitsplätzen, von Arbeitspraktiken, Arbeitsstellen und -beziehungen entworfen. Deren Zusammenspiel konstituiert den Arbeitsraum. Das Nachdenken darüber, wie der heutige Büroraum entstanden ist, hilft, jenen der Zukunft zu planen.
