Abstract

Zusammenfassung Führungskräfte sind Entscheidungsträger. Sie müssen schnell und oft entscheiden. Häufig ohne über ausreichende oder gar vollständige Informationen zu verfügen. Oft handelt es sich dabei um Entscheidungen, die weitreichende Folgen nach sich ziehen können. Überlegungen zum Auf- oder Abbau von Märkten, Abteilungen oder der Belegschaft, Entscheidungen im Zusammenhang mit der Investition in neue Technologien, Veränderungen in der Organisation oder die nachhaltige Verankerung der Unternehmenskultur konfrontieren Führungskräfte mit komplexen Situationen. Komplexität lässt sich im engeren Sinn nicht managen. Ein rein analytisches Durchdenken einer Situation reicht selten aus. Doch kann eine ganzheitliche Betrachtung helfen, in komplexen Situationen kluge Entscheidungen zu fällen. In einer synthetischen Herangehensweise müssen Kopf und Bauch verbunden werden – oder auch: Herz und Verstand. Intuitivem Handeln sollte ebenso Raum gegeben werden wie rationalem Vorgehen. Die St. Gallener Managementlehre stellt hierzu ein Konzept bereit, mit dem es gelingen kann, komplexe Problemstellungen zu bearbeiten. So können Führungskräfte kluge Entscheidungen treffen, um ihrer Rolle als Manager und als Leader besser gerecht zu werden.
