Abstract

Zusammenfassung Das Geld ist bisher nie ernsthaft Gegenstand umfassender historischer Betrachtung geworden. Es gibt bis heute keine Geldgeschichte in dem gleichen selbstverständlichen Sinn, wie es etwa Staats-, Rechts-, Sprach-, Literatur-, Kunst-, ja selbst Wirtschaftsgeschichte gibt. Diese Beobachtung der Numismatik (Münzkunde) wird von der Wirtschaftswissenschaft bestätigt; noch heute gilt die Bemerkung von William Stanley Jevons aus dem Jahre 1875, nach der die „Naturgeschichte des Geldes nahezu jungfräulicher Boden“ sei.
