Die kulturelle Dimension von Sezession

Abstract

Zusammenfassung Weltweit gewinnen seit Ende des Kalten Kriegs sezessionistische Bewegungen zunehmend an Einfluss. Dabei wird der Ruf nach Selbstbestimmung häufig mit kulturellen Aspekten begründet. Der vorliegende Beitrag sensibilisiert mit dem Faktor Kultur für einen Aspekt, der ein ausgesprochen wirkmächtiges Werkzeug zur Identitätsbildung darstellt und deshalb seitens zahlreicher Sezessionsbewegungen sowohl auf impliziter als auch auf expliziter Ebene instrumentalisiert wird. In diesem Zusammenhang erfolgt einerseits eine konzeptionelle Auseinandersetzung mit dem erkenntnisleitenden Kulturbegriff, andererseits wird ein konziser Einblick in die Funktionalisierung und Essenzialisierung von Kultur im Spannungsfeld von Eigenem und Fremdem gewährt. Anhand ausgewählter Konfliktfelder – konkret Religion, Sprache und Historizität – aus unterschiedlichen Regionen wird deutlich, dass ein ganzheitliches Verständnis von Sezessionen dezidiert eine kulturelle Perspektive einfordert.
