Bitcoin & Co: Kryptowährungen für alle?

Abstract

Zusammenfassung Kryptowährungen basieren in der Regel auf dezentralen Computernetzwerken und existieren lediglich als elektronische Signale und Aufzeichnungen. Durch den Ausschluss von staatlichen Institutionen, die als regulierende Instanzen auftreten können, stellen Kryptowährungen keine Währungen im Sinne einer klassischen Geldordnung dar. Nichtdestotrotz war mit der ursprünglichen Idee zur Schaffung einer Kryptowährung nicht die Abkehr von den drei Grundfunktionen des Geldes intendiert. Dieser Beitrag analysiert, ob Kryptowährungen als Geld bezeichnet werden können, sowie die Chancen und Risiken der weiter verbreiteten Kryptowährungen als Portfoliobestandteil für Verbraucherinnen und Verbraucher. Außerdem gibt der Beitrag einen Ausblick auf die neuesten Entwicklungen bei bargeldlosen Bezahlmethoden als Alternative zu Kryptowährungen als Geld und Zahlungsmittel.
