Abstract

Zusammenfassung Innerhalb weniger Jahre hat eSport, der Wettkampf in Computer- und Videospielen, weltweit, aber auch in Deutschland den Weg aus der Nische zu einem Massenphänomen beschritten. Damit verbunden sind vielfältige Entwicklungen, die aus gesellschaftlicher, wirtschaftlicher und sportlicher Perspektive beachtenswert sind. Dieser Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über den Aufstieg von eSport und vermittelt einen Eindruck über die bereits heute bestehende große Relevanz des digitalen Sports. Aus unserer Perspektive als game – Verband der deutschen Games-Branche soll verdeutlicht werden, warum eSport ein so wichtiges Themenfeld ist.
