Abstract

Zusammenfassung Bis heute gibt es weder einen Konsens darüber, was der Begriff eSport alles umfasst, noch über seine Schreibweise. eSport ist jung: Erst allmählich bildet sich in Deutschland eine Infrastruktur heraus, werden Ligen und Vereine gegründet. Dieses Kapitel gibt zum Einstieg einen Überblick über die historische Entwicklung von Videospielen und eSport, beschäftigt sich mit dem Begriff des „elektronischen Sports“ und mit der Gretchenfrage, ob eSport denn nun Sport sei oder nicht. Zuletzt gibt es einen Ausblick auf die folgenden Kapitel dieses Buches.
