Abstract

Zusammenfassung Wie in Kapitel 38 berichtet, hielt Hirzebruch seinen letzten auswärtigen Vortrag am 19.4.2012 in Bielefeld. Wenige Tage später, am 23.4., folgte in Bonn sein letzter Vortrag überhaupt, klar, präzise und verständlich wie sein erster, den er im Geometrie-Seminar bei Keller gehalten hatte, und wie alle danach. Es gibt nicht wenige Mathematiker, deren letzte Lebensjahre in Krankheit, Resignation, Vergessen, der Unfähigkeit zu arbeiten dahingingen. Hirzebruch hatte das Glück, dass ihm das erspart blieb.
