Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die großen Aufgaben, die Hirzebruch noch in den neunziger Jahren übernommen hatte – im Zusammenhang mit der deutschen Wiedervereinigung, in Israel und Polen und bei der europäischen Integration –, traten allmählich in den Hintergrund. Jedoch erhielt er immer noch viele Einladungen zu Vorträgen, zu Tagungen, zu Jubiläen, zu Veranstaltungen aus erfreulichem oder aus traurigem Anlass. Die Akten »Erledigte Einladungen, Reisen« in seinem Arbeitszimmer sind genauso umfangreich wie in früheren Jahren. Er erhielt mehr Einladungen, als er Zusagen geben konnte. Doch man hat den Eindruck, dass er sie weiterhin alle annahm, wenn es sich nur irgend ermöglichen ließ. Seine Vorträge bereitete er wie seit jeher sorgfältig vor, und er schrieb mit der Hand aus vielen Anlässen persönliche Briefe.
