Abstract

Zusammenfassung Es war Friedrich Hirzebruch bestimmt, Mathematiker zu werden. Es passte alles zusammen: eine überragende Begabung, ein frühes und tiefes Interesse an dieser Wissenschaft, ja eine Liebe zu ihr, die für ein so schwieriges Fach notwendige Selbstdisziplin, ein Elternhaus, das sein Interesse förderte, für ihn günstige Umstände im Studium, ganz früh schon Kontakte zu bedeutenden Mathematikern, die ihm entscheidende Anregungen gaben – und wenn das alles noch nicht genug war, dann kam manchmal auch noch reines Glück hinzu.
