Abstract

Zusammenfassung Hirzebruch verbrachte das akademische Jahr 1955/56 als Assistant Professor an der Princeton University. Gewiss wurde über diesen Aufenthalt schon gesprochen, als er noch am IAS war, und man wird annehmen dürfen, dass insbesondere Spencer und Kodaira versuchten, ihn für einen längeren Aufenthalt zu gewinnen. Am 22.10.1954 schrieb der Chairman des mathematischen Instituts Albert W. Tucker: The Dean of the Faculty has given his approval to the recommendation of the Department of Mathematics that you be appointed Assistant Professor for three years beginning September 1955, at an annual salary of $5250.00. Formal action on your appointment will have to be taken by the Board of Trustees at its next meeting, until which time no publicity should be given to your appointment. [. . .]
