Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die erste ausführliche Betrachtung von Darstellungen in dieser Arbeit widmen wir Mengen; genauer Klassen abgeschlossener und offener Teilmengen des normierten Raums ℝ d mit fester Dimension d ∈ ℕ. Mengen sind schon deshalb eine genauere Betrachtung wert, weil sie ein fundamentales Konzept der Mathematik darstellen. Unsere konkrete Motivation nährt sich jedoch aus Anwendungen in der Topologie, Geometrie und Analysis: die Suche nach Polynomialzeitalgorithmen für Mengenvereinigung und -durchschnitt, Projektion von Mengen, oder Bilder und Urbilder stetiger Funktionen setzt sowohl Darstellungen, als auch zugehörige Äquivalenzresultate voraus. Letztere sind von besonderer Bedeutung, geben sie doch eine starke Evidenz für die Robustheit von Komplexitätsschranken.
