Abstract

Zusammenfassung Erste Spielformen des Backgammon sind bereits mindestens 1600 vor Christus entstanden. Die ersten nahen Verwandten des modernen Backgammon entwickelten sich im alten Rom. Kaiser Claudius hat angeblich sogar ein Buch über dieses Spiel verfasst. Und Kleopatra und Markus Antonius haben möglicherweise beim Spiel einer Urform ihre Mußestunden verbracht. Auf der ganzen Welt entstanden Spielvariationen mit unterschiedlichen Namen, die weiterhin mit den Kreisen der herrschenden Dynastien, des Adels und der Mächtigen in Verbindung gebracht werden: Mit dem spanischen König Alfons X, mit Martin Luther und Ludwig XVI zum Beispiel. Der Name Backgammon wird 1645 erstmals in England erwähnt.
