Abstract

Zusammenfassung Was bedeutet der Begriff „Wahrscheinlichkeit“? Viele Mathematiklehrer lernen in ihrem Studium nur die frequentistische Sichtweise: Wahrscheinlichkeit ist relative Häufigkeit „auf die Dauer“. Im alltäglichen Gebrauch des Begriffs „Wahrscheinlichkeit“ funktioniert diese Interpretation aber häufig nicht, zum Beispiel bei einmaligen Ereignissen. Es gibt aber eine alternative Interpretation von „Wahrscheinlichkeit“, die dieses Problem löst: die bayesianische. Nach dieser Interpretation beschreibt „Wahrscheinlichkeit“, wie plausibel ein Ereignis bei gegebener Information ist. Frequentisten und Bayesianer streiten sich schon seit dem 18. Jahrhundert über die beiden Interpretationen. In diesem Artikel erörtere ich nach einer kurzen Einführung in die bayesianische Methode die wichtigsten Streitfragen, Argumente und Gegenargumente. Zum Schluss behandle ich die Relevanz dieser Problematik für die Schulmathematik.
