Abstract

Zusammenfassung Im Dialog Politeia (509dff., 521cff.) lässt Platon die Figur des Sokrates die Ausbildung zur Ideenschau – und wie sie in essentieller Weise die mathematischen Wissenschaften einschließt – schildern. Meine erste These ist, dass dieser Erkenntnisweg – mag er grundsätzlich möglich sein oder nicht – zumindest nicht mittels der modernen Mathematik funktioniert. Wie hat man sich jedoch das platonische Bildungsideal in seiner intendierten Anwendung vorzustellen? Wie sind Ideen, Mathematik und sichtbarer Seinsbereich nach Platon miteinander verzahnt? Meine zweite These ist, dass man recht betrachtet in Euklids Elementen ein Beispiel ‚platonischer Geometrie‘ hat, aus dem sich wieder neue Ansätze für die Deutung platonischer Dialoge ergeben.
