Abstract

Zusammenfassung Unter den Maximen der klassischen Kryptographie haben wir als Nr. 3 die von Kerckhoffs „Der Feind kennt das benutzte System“ aufgelistet. Sarkastisch könnte man das dahingehend interpretieren, man solle doch am besten dem Feind gleich die benutzte Maschinerie völlig offenlegen. Unabsichtlich ist das tatsächlich immer wieder geschehen, am drastischsten in letzter Zeit mit der ENIGMA, deren kommerzielle Form dem polnischen Dienst zugänglich war und ihm das Eindringen erleichterte, deren im Krieg benutzte Rotoren in aufgebrachten deutschen U-Booten ebenfalls kompromittiert wurden. Aber selbstverständlich lag das nicht in der Absicht von Chi, dem deutschen Wehrmachtsdienst. Benützt man einen individuellen Schlüssel und begeht keinen Verstoß gegen die dabei erforderlichen Sicherheitsbestimmungen, so kann man in der Tat öffentlich bekanntmachen, daß man etwa eine Vernam-Chiffrierung benutzt, ohne dadurch an Sicherheit zu verlieren. Zyniker mögen dazu bemerken, daß die Kenntnis der Gefahr die Kryptosekretäre — Beamte oder Soldaten — vielleicht zu mehr Sorgfalt anhält.
