Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die statistische Bearbeitung von Beobachtungsreihen verfolgt mehrere Zwecke. Die erste Aufgabe ist die „Reduktion der Daten“ Sie besteht darin, in möglichst knapper und gedrängter Form die wesentlichsten Eigenschaften der Beobachtungsreihe zahlenmäßig darzustellen. Dabei sind die Arten der Merkmale zu unterscheiden: 1. Qualitative Merkmale, die in verschiedenen Ausprägungen nichtquantitativer Art vorkommen, z. B. Geschlecht, Blutgruppen. Qualitative Merkmale können nur gezählt werden. In der technischen Qualitätskontrolle spricht man von Attributprüfungen. 2. Quantitative Merkmale, mit denen bestimmte Eigenschaften gemessen werden, z. B. Länge, Gewicht, Einkommen. Meist liegen sachlich sinnvolle lineare Skalen vor. In der technischen Qualitätskontrolle spricht man von messenden Prüfungen. 3. Ordnungs-Merkmale, die ebenfalls auf Messungs-Skalen beruhen, die jedoch im Grund nur Reihenfolgen oder grobe Einstufungen festlegen, z. B. Examenszensuren, Schmerzempfindungsskalen usw. Auch als ordinale Merkmale bezeichnet.
