Abstract

Zusammenfassung Georg Cantor hat in seinen Briefen mehrfach die Ansicht vertreten, daß erst kommende Generationen von Mathematikern seine Leistungen würdigen könnten. Man könnte behaupten, daß er Recht behalten hat; allerdings muß man hinzufügen, daß seine Theorie eine formalistische Deutung erfahren hat, die ihm gar nicht gefallen würde. Aber im „Zentralblatt“nehmen heute die Berichte über Forschungen zur Mengenlehre einen breiten Raum ein, und die Grundkonzeptionen seiner Mengenlehre sind in die Strukturtheorien unseres Jahrhunderts eingegangen. Das Interesse an seiner Person wird dadurch dokumentiert, daß es über keinen Mathematiker des letzten Jahrhunderts so viele biographische Schriften gibt wie über Cantor.
