Abstract

Zusammenfassung Georg Cantor schrieb in seinen mittleren Jahren eine gut lesbare Handschrift. Sie wirkt sicher und behäbig, wie er selbst auf manchen Fotos aus dieser Zeit. Diese Feststellung gilt für die Mehrzahl der Reinschriften; im Briefbuch sieht man den Eintragungen zuweilen an, daß er in Eile war; auch, daß er manchen Brief in Erregung schrieb, kann man an seinen Schriftzügen erkennen. Bemerkenswert sind bei Cantor auch die Anrede und der Briefschluß. Bei der Wiedergabe wissenschaftlicher Korrespondenz werden diese Briefteile zuweilen weggelassen, weil sich die Briefschreiber eben an die üblichen Höflichkeitsformeln halten, deren Wiedergabe auch unterbleiben kann. Bei Cantor ist das etwas anders. Er war ein sehr temperamentvoller Mensch, der gerne Freundschaften schloß und auch in seinen Briefen recht herzlich werden konnte. Wenn ihm aber etwas zuwiderlief, schlug das Wetter rasch um.
