Abstract

Zusammenfassung Neben dem Eigenwertproblem ist die Auflösung linearer Gleichungs-systeme der große Komplex innerhalb der Matrizennumerik. Die theoretischen Grundlagen dazu wurden im § 6 gelegt; im folgenden geht es um die praktische Durchführung vor allem im Hinblick auf große Gleichungssysteme (Mammutmatrizen) mit 100000 und mehr Unbekannten, wie sie als Endprodukte der Finite-Elemente-Methode (FEM) und/oder der finiten Übersetzungen von linearen (oder lineari-sierten) Differentialoperatoren heute gang und gäbe sind. Es ist einleuchtend, daß bei derart hohen Anforderungen besondere Maßnahmen erforderlich werden, um erstens überhaupt noch eine brauchbare Näherung z ≈ x gewinnen und, was weitaus wichtiger ist, einige oder alle Komponenten x j des Lösungsvektors x in mathematisch gesicherte Grenzen einzuschließen. Diesem Aspekt wenden wir uns daher vor der Beschreibung der eigentlichen Algorithmen im §31 als erstes zu.
