Abstract

We describe a project which is carried out jointly with Prof. R. Rannacher at Heidelberg University and cooperation with Joh. Vaillant Company at Remscheid. The project aims at a complete numerical modelling of a gas burner, as developed by the industrial partner. Of major concern is the reduction of polutant formation, NO x and CO, for heating devices on the basis of towngas-air combustion. While the Heidelberg group is mainly concerned with the mixing process, we are involved with the modelling and simulation of the combustion zone of this device. In this context the development and numerical simulation of a simplified 2D-axisymmetric model is described. In particular the thermal interaction of the flame with the burner plate is considered. The reaction model is presently based on a global, irreversible one step reaction. A detailed mechanism is under development.
