Abstract

This project is carried out jointly with Prof. G. Bader at the TU Cottbus and with the support of Joh. Vaillant Company at Remscheid. The goal is a complete numerical modelling of a gas burner, as used in the products of the industrial partner, mainly to reduce the formation of pollutants (NO x ). To this end, the Heidelberg group develops a method for the computation of the weakly compressible methane/air mixture in the mixing chamber of the burner, while the Cottbus group studies the combustion of the premixed gas at the burner head. The interest is in the dependence of the gas exit, the combustion process and the resulting temperature distribution on the geometry of the mixing chamber and the other flow conditions at varying load. The result of this project shall be a flexible and efficient method by which future problems of this type may be treated routinely on workstations.
