Abstract

Zusammenfassung Im ersten Band sowie in Kap. IV dieses Bandes ist der Zusammenhang von Randwert- und Eigenwertproblemen elliptischer Differentialgleichungen mit der Variationsrechnung ausführlich diskutiert worden. Jedoch fehlt noch ein allgemeiner Beweis für die Lösbarkeit dieser Probleme. Wir wollen nunmehr diese Existenzbeweise auf der Basis der Variationsrechnung erbringen. Dabei legen wir der Darstellung den Fall von zwei unabhängigen Veränderlichen zugrunde, bemerken aber, daβ die Theorie unverändert für drei unabhängige Veränderliche gilt, abgesehen von einer Sonderbetrachtung über die Annahme der Randwerte in § 4. Bei mehr als drei unabhängigen Veränderlichen erfordert die Übertragung der Theorie eine Einschränkung (vgl. Fuβnote in §5,1, S. 499).
