Abstract

Zusammenfassung Viele der Geschichten, welche die Leute in Gjerstad später über Niels Henrik erzählten, haben sich höchstwahrscheinlich in jenem Sommer 1822 zugetragen: dass er fröhlich und unbeschwert die verschiedenen Höfe besuchte, dass er gut darin war, das Wetter vorherzusagen und dass er im Besitz von Instrumenten war, mit denen er versuchte, den Abstand zur Sonne zu messen. Im Übrigen schien in diesem Sommer häufig die Sonne, der Frühling war früh gekommen, bereits Ende April hatten die Bauern mit dem Pflügen begonnen. Alles deutete auf einen dieser seltenen trockenen Sommer hin und so konnte Niels Henrik mit seiner Fähigkeit beeindrucken, einen der wenigen Regenschauer vorherzusagen, der dann auch kurz darauf einsetzte. Sicher drückte auch in diesem Sommer Pastor Aas seine Hochachtung vor dem jungen Wissenschaftler aus, indem er mit dem Hut in der Hand Niels Henrik entgegenging, als dieser vom Gjerstadsee heraufkam.
