Abstract

Zusammenfassung Er kam nach Helsingør, jenem Städtchen, wo dereinst Prinz Hamlet regiert haben soll, und das als eines der schönsten in Dänemark galt. Alles, was für die dänische Landschaft typisch ist, war hier vereint: der herrliche Sund, wogende Getreidefelder vor üppigen Buchenwäldern und, als Krönung des Ganzen, die traditionsreiche Festung Kronborg. Kein Ort war schöner als Helsingør, wenn frühmorgens bei Sonnenaufgang über der hohen schwedischen Küste das Meer glitzernd und spiegelblank dalag: Das dänische Patrouillenschiff begrüßte den Sonnenaufgang mit Kanonenschüssen und das morgendliche Glockengeläute hallte auf den vielen Schiffen wider. Helsingør gehörte auch zu den lebendigsten Städten im Reich: Etwa 9.000 Schiffe kamen jährlich und legten in Helsingør an, um den Sundzoll zu entrichten und fremde Kriegsflotten schossen im Wechsel mit der Festung Salut.
