Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Kathedralschule in Christiania war ein stattliches Gebäude. Neben der Bibliothek mit ihren 6.000 Bänden, dem Auditorium und der Naturaliensammlung von Pflanzen, Insekten und Fossilien hatte die Schule noch fünf sehr zweckmäßig eingerichtete Studierzimmer sowie einen Raum, in dem das Archiv der Schule und eine Antikensammlung aufbewahrt waren, die der Gesellschaft für dasWohl Norwegens gehörte. 1816 hatte die Schule zwei neue, schöne schwedische Globen erhalten und die Verwalter des Bernt Anker’schen Fideikommiss hatten eine große englische Seekarte gestiftet. Ansonsten besaß die Schule eine Sammlung von 84 Landkarten und einen so genannten mathematischen und physikalischen Apparat. Dieser befand sich im oberen Stockwerk, von wo man Straße und Hof überblicken konnte. Darunter wohnte Rektor Rosted mit seiner Frau und auch der Pedell der Schule hatte hier seine Wohnung. Durch Fäulnisbefall war der Saal der Bibliothek an einer Seite etwas abgesackt. Die Dächer waren offenbar nicht steil genug, deshalb war es früher vorgekommen, dass im Frühling, wenn der Schnee auf dem Dach schmolz, Feuchtigkeit eindrang in den Bibliothekssaal, ins Auditorium, in die Küche des Rektors und seine Speisekammer.
