Study on Carbon Footprint of the Household Consumption in Tianjin Based on Input-Output Analysis

Abstract

With the improvement of people’s living standards, the analysis of the carbon footprint of household consumption should not be ignored any more. Based on input-output studies on household consumption at home and abroad, this paper provides a comprehensive study on the characteristics of direct and embodied carbon footprint of Tianjin in 2007. The result shows that: the carbon footprint caused by household consumption in urban area is much more than that in rural areas. Carbon footprint by rural residents was mainly caused by direct household energy consumption. The per capita direct carbon footprint by rural residents is also smaller than that by urban residents, so is the embodied carbon footprint. For urban residents, the percentage of carbon footprint due to food consumption is close to that of rural residents. For rural residents, food, residence and transport & communications are three top categories of embodied carbon footprint. Based on these carbon analyses, corresponding policies and suggestions are provided in the end of this paper.
