Abstract

Spare parts inventories of wind turbines play an important role in improving the service level and reducing the operation and maintenance costs of turbines. The present paper introduces kanban system to wind turbine spare parts management and points out that the inventory bottom and upper lines are critical in the implementation of kanban system to wind turbine spare parts management. Then a model to determine inventory upper and bottom lines is proposed. Finally, a case from A Wind Power Technology Company is studied and the results show that kanban system is essential in ensuring high level service of spare parts to wind turbines, in reducing breakdown loss due to delay repairs, in reducing the inventory of the components in WT subsystems including pitch system, yaw system, generator system, frequency conversion system, hydraulic system.
