Abstract

The first part of this paper presents an overview of research carried out up to 1998 on the history of mathematical activities in the Islamic West. The topics covered are algebra, the science of calculation, theory of numbers, geometry and combinatorics. The second part covers different aspects of research carried out in the same field between 1999 and 2011: bibliographic work, the circulation of scientific writings between the Islamic East and West, the mathematical products of the Andalus and the Maghreb. This article shows, in particular, the expansion of the scope of investigation into domains that had not been sufficiendy studied before, such as mensuration, division of figures and tiling, and the science of dividing heritages.
