Measurement Systems for Sustainability

Abstract

To control the performance of companies in a sustainable way, it is necessary, in a first step, to clarify the fundamental dimensions of sustainability. In the next step, this paper aims at deriving criteria to examine common performance measurement systems –PMS– whether they are suitable to measure performance of companies with regard to sustainability. According to these criteria, selected potential method extensions are evaluated in order to integrate sustainability into the performance measurement systems and management systems.
