Abstract

En 1917 et 1918 paraît, aux Comptes rendus de l'Académie des sciences,toute une série de notes liées au sujet du Grand Prix. Les auteurs en sont Fatou, Julia, Lattès, Ritt (et Montel). Julia dépose aussi des plis cachetés1.À la fin de l'année 1917, les mémoires concourant pour le Grand Prix sont déposés. En 1918, les notes continuent à arriver et les Commissions internes à l'Académie des sciences chargées de choisir les lauréats des prix se réunissent.Dans ce chapitre est présentée la chronologie des notes relatives à l'itération et des décisions de l'Académie des sciences en 1917 et 1918. Parce que cette histoire n'est pas indépendante de son contexte historique et qu'elle va se dérouler dans l'ambiance évoquée au § I.3, quelques étapes de ces deux années de guerre sont rappelées simultanément. Remarque. On va le voir, l'efficacité et la vitesse avec lesquelles les Comptes rendus sont utilisés comme moyen de communication entre mathématiciens dans cette histoire sont tout à fait remarquables et impressionnantes.
