Abstract

Auszug Hätte es den Irak-Krieg auch gegeben, wenn nicht George W. Bush, sondern Albert A. Gore die amerikanischen Präsidentschaftswahlen des Jahres 2000 gewonnen hätte? Viel spricht für die Vermutung, dass dem nicht so wäre. Hätte Kanzler Gerhard Schröder die Bundestagswahlen 2002 auch gewinnen können, ohne das Irak-Thema wahltaktisch zu besetzen? Wiederum spricht vieles für die Vermutung, dass dem nicht so wäre. Zur Erinnerung: Al Gore hatte etwa eine halbe Million Wählerstimmen mehr gewonnen als George Bush! Diese waren aber so ungünstig über die Bundesstaaten verteilt, dass sie in weniger Wahlmännerstimmen für ihn als für George Bush resultierten. Das Wahlmännergremium mit den Entsandten aller Bundesstaaten wählte daraufhin George Bush rechtmäßig zum 43. Präsidenten der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika. Verdanken die Bundesbürger die Fortsetzung der rot-grünen Regierungskoalition also letztlich einem grotesken "Defekt" des amerikanischen Mehrheitswahlsystems?
