Abstract

Auszug Das vorliegende Werk versucht, die wichtigsten Theoreme der Mengenlehre mit vollständig ausgeführten Beweisen darzustellen, so daß seine Lektüre nirgends der Ergänzung durch fremde Hilfsmittel bedarf, wohl aber ihrerseits zum tieferen Eindringen in die umfangreiche Literatur befähigt. Es setzt beim Leser keine höheren mathematischen Kenntnisse als etwa die Anfangsgründe der Differential- und Integralrechnung, allerdings aber eine gewisse Schärfe des abstrakten Denkens voraus und wird von Studierenden in mittleren Semestern mit Erfolg gelesen werden können. Schwierigere Gegenstände am Ende der einzelnen Kapitel mögen beim ersten Studium überschlagen werden; der Leser, der nur die einfachsten Tatsachen der Punktmengentheorie kennen lernenwill, kann nach flüchtiger Durchsicht der ersten beiden Kapitel sogleich das sechste in Angriff nehmen. — Den Faehgenossen hoffe ich wenigstens in formaler Hinsicht, insbesondere durch Verschärfung der Sätze, Vereinfachung der Beweise und Befreiung von unnötigen Voraussetzungen, einiges Neue zu bieten.
