Abstract

Auszug 1927 erschien im Verlag Walter de Gruyter Felix Hausdorffs Buch Mengenlehre. Es war als „zweite, neubearbeitete Auflage“ der Grundzüge der Mengenlehre deklariert, in Wahrheit aber ein vollkommen neues Buch. Wegen der vom Verlag verlangten Beschränkung der Seitenzahl der neuen Ausgabe auf etwa 60 % des Umfangs der Grundzüge 2 waren drastische Kürzungen nötig geworden. So ließ Hausdorff aus dem in den Grundzügen behandelten Stoff die Maß- und Integrationstheorie, große Teile der Theorie der geordneten Mengen sowie die Ausführungen über euklidische Räume weg. Die wohl einschneidendste Änderung gegenüber den Grundzügen bestand darin, daß Hausdorff die dort von ihm selbst entwickelte Theorie der topologischen Räume in der Neuausgabe fast vollständig verließ und die Punktmengentheorie auf metrische Räume beschränkte.
