The Development Toward a European Enterprise: Results and Conclusions

Abstract

Most published scholarly literature leaves the meaning of “European” “Europeanisation” or “Europeaness” largely undefined, referring just to firms registered and/or doing business in Europe. The contributors to this volume have used various definitions of a European firm, highlighting different ideas about how to describe this kind of enterprise. This was an approach reflected in the work of all authors, although it was not stated anew in every case. Explicitly or not, issues such as country of origin, nationality of owners or their organizations (funds, banks), and the nationality of management played an important role in all contributions, as did places of production, the character of the firm, and markets for sales and purchases.
