Abstract

Summary In research on power system relay protection, a lot of computer simulations must be done for various system models, running conditions and fault conditions. Because of the huge computation requirements, the simulations would cost quite much time. The paper describes a Linux cluster based parallel simulation system of power system developed by the authors, and shows good performance-cost ratio through using existing PC hardware and network resources. The parallel software is based on MPI parallel programming model. Computation examples indicate that the parallel simulation system improves the computation speed significantly.
