Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die ersten Ansätze der Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung gehen auf die Franzosen Pierre de Fermat (1601 bis 1665) und Blaise Pascal (1623 bis 1662) zurück. Als eigentlicher Begründer der Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung kann jedoch erst der Schweizer Jakob Bernoulli (1654 bis 1705) angesehen werden. Seine „ars conjectandi“ (zu deutsch: Die Kunst des Vermutens) gilt als das klassische Werk der Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung und bildet die Grundlage für alle weiteren Untersuchungen auf diesem Gebiet. Auf die Entwicklung der Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung hatten dann die Franzosen Pierre Simon Laplace (1749 bis 1827) und Siméon Denis Poisson (1781 bis 1840) besonders großen Einfluß, ersterer vor allem mit seinem im Jahre 1817 erschienenen Werk „théorie analytique des probabilités“ (Analytische Wahrscheinlichkeitstheorie) und letzterer mit den 1837 erschienenen Untersuchungen der Gerichtsurteile („recherches sur la probabilité des jugements en matière civile et en matière criminelle“).
