Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die Idee, Weierstraß ein Fotoalbum zu überreichen, scheint erst relativ spät im Sommer 1885 entstanden zu sein. Mit den Vorbereitungen für den Geburtstag am 31. Oktober 1885 hatte man aber schon viel früher, spätestens in der Mitte des Jahres 1884 begonnen. Von Mittag-Leffler wurde der Vorschlag unterbreitet, eine Weierstraß-Büste anfertigen zu lassen. Es schien ratsam, zur Beförderung der Angelegenheit ein Komitee zu gründen. Man ist sich nicht sicher, ob Mittag-Lefflers Projekt auch realisierbar sei. Im August 1884 wird daher ein Kostenvoranschlag für die Herstellung einer Medaille eingeholt. Den Wunsch, eine Medaille herstellen zu lassen, spricht Schwarz wenig später im Oktober Kronecker und Lazarus Fuchs gegenüber aus. Schließlich wird auch ein Festkomitee gegründet, das unter der Leitung von Fuchs steht. Cantor unterstützt den Vorschlag Mittag-Lefflers und wiederholt ihm gegenüber seine Bitte, den ins Auge gefaßten Plan nicht aufzugeben, sondern mit Unterstützung der ausländischen Freunde und Verehrer von Weierstraß zu realisieren versuchen.
